Currently no direct possibility to specify subcategories.
So you need to make a choice: eather use only gross categories (event type) as "car" for everything about car, or you can create several detailed categories (types) like "car - repair", "car - gas", "car - insurance", etc.
Also consider using tags instead of subcategories.
E.g. you can use single event type "car" and tags for detailed subcategory like "repair", "gas", "insurance".
