Would it be possible to allow for choosing different ordering options; e.g., for Actions or Amounts or Event Types? Unless I'm missing something, it seems that the only ordering is by Date.

Ordering is only by Date.
It's not just a list of events, it's a sequence of events and the Balance column shows how it's changing event by event. Ordering by any other column would make a meaningless mess of events.
Why do you think of other ordering?
If you want to look at specific group of events (e.g. events of particular types, actions, or of large amounts only) then you can use filter for that (see the screenshot below). Ordering in filter mode stays by Date as well.
